It’s your Fault People have Died

“And the truth is, there is something terribly wrong with this country, isn’t there? Cruelty and injustice, intolerance and oppression…How did this happen? Who’s to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you’re looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror. I know why you did it. I know you were afraid. Who wouldn’t be? War, terror, disease. There was a myriad of problems that conspired to corrupt your reason and rob you of your common sense.” V for Vendetta, Alan Moore

We need to stop confusing truth with opinion. I think Casablanca is the greatest film ever made, but the truth is, based on its direction, editing, cinematography and acting, it isn’t. Objectively it is a very, very good film but the truth is, there are other films which are far superior. I may think that if I eat 10 bananas they will give me the ability to fly but the truth is, if I jumped off a building I would obviously die.

Truth is not the same as opinion.

Truth is not the same as opinion.

Truth is not the same as opinion.

And, in fact, so many things are not black and white, there is nuance, there are subtleties, so in order to understand the truth you need to wade through facts to ensure you understand what is truly happening. To know truth means to not be ignorant.

The truth is:

Boris Johnson has been abjectly awful a leader during the coronavirus crisis.

Many people have been wilfully ignorant of the consequences of their actions because even if it is legal doesn’t mean it’s morally right. Law and morality are not the same.

The science said lockdown (a true, unambiguous lockdown) needed to happen much sooner. Johnson’s Neoliberal ideology cared more for economy.

The science said herd immunity was a terrible choice and there was no evidence of its existence. Johnson openly pushed for it.

The science said test, test, test. Trace, trace, trace. Johnson abandoned testing and then backtracked much later when public opinion shifted against him.

His ego guides his methods, not the science. That’s my opinion but the evidence seems to support the high possibility this is true.

The science has said lockdown is being lifted too early. Sociology says people will easily fall into mob mentality because humans are engineered that way. Johnson and Cummings know that people will do what’s wrong, not right and opening the pubs will cause carnage. They know the science and therefore know they won’t be blamed because newspapers are showing pictures of crammed streets with drunk people.

The public will be blamed for the deaths.

The truth is, we are all to blame. We allow our reason to be abandoned and elect liars and frauds and then blame each other.
